Recycling on the go
Visitors account for a good portion of recyclable glass in tourism hot spots like Queenstown.
The Glass Packaging Forum has provided funding for a colour-separated public bottle bank and the related service costs for Pak n’ Save Queenstown.
It is proving to be a great way to capture glass from the tourism sector, which might have otherwise been put into bins and sent to landfill. The funding has been granted for a 2 to 3-year trial, with Smart Environmental servicing the bin.
Funding for a public glass recycling bin was also approved for Visy in Onehunga, Auckland.
